How to choose a USDT network
TRON, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, TON: how to pick the right network for USDT so that the transfer arrives and the fees make sense.
When you exchange to or from USDT, you choose not only the coin but also the network. USDT on TRON (TRC20), Ethereum (ERC20), BNB Smart Chain (BEP20), Solana, TON and other networks are separate assets. The right choice depends on where the coins will go.
Start with the receiver
- Open the deposit page of the wallet or exchange that will receive USDT.
- Find the list of supported networks for USDT and pick one of them.
- Copy the deposit address for that network and, if the page shows one, the memo/tag.
- In Changezilla choose USDT on the same network as the receiving side.
What differs between networks
- Address format. TRON — starts with T; Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Arbitrum, Polygon, Base — start with 0x; TON — usually UQ or EQ; Solana — 32–44 letters and digits.
- Network fee coin. To send USDT from your own wallet you need the native coin of the network: TRX on TRON, ETH on Ethereum, BNB on BNB Smart Chain, SOL on Solana, TON on TON.
- Memo/tag. Some networks use an extra identifier for deposits to exchange accounts. See What is a memo/tag.
- Minimum amount. It is set by the exchange service for each direction; the calculator shows it before you create an exchange.
| Network | Address starts with | Network fee paid in | Memo/tag for exchange deposits |
|---|---|---|---|
| T | TRX | Not used | |
| 0x | ETH | Not used | |
| 0x | BNB | Not used | |
| 32–44 letters and digits | SOL | Usually not used | |
| UQ or EQ | TON | Often required |
Common mistakes
- Choosing the network by habit instead of by what the receiver supports.
- Sending to a 0x address on the wrong 0x network: the address looks identical on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain.
- Forgetting the native coin for the network fee in your own wallet.
Send only the coin and only on the network shown in your exchange. A blockchain transfer cannot be reversed.
Terms in this guide
Blockchain network
A blockchain on which coins and tokens are transferred, for example Bitcoin, Ethereum, TRON, Solana or TON. A transfer exists only inside its own network: coins sent on one network do not appear on another.
Token standard (TRC20, ERC20, BEP20)
The rules a token follows on a particular network: TRC20 on TRON, ERC20 on Ethereum, BEP20 on BNB Smart Chain, SPL on Solana, jettons on TON. USDT TRC20 and USDT ERC20 have the same name but are different assets.
Memo / tag
An extra identifier of a transfer used on networks such as TON, XRP Ledger, Stellar and Cosmos. Exchanges use it to credit deposits to the right account. If your exchange shows a memo/tag, the transfer must include it.
