How to move USDT from an exchange to your own wallet
Withdrawing USDT from an exchange account to a wallet where only you hold the keys: wallet setup, seed phrase, network choice and the withdrawal fee.
On an exchange account the exchange holds the keys and processes your withdrawals. In your own (non-custodial) wallet the keys are only yours. Many people move USDT to their own wallet to control the funds themselves.
Exchange account and own wallet
Exchange account
The exchange holds the keys, processes withdrawals and may set its own limits and checks.
Own wallet
Only you hold the keys. Nobody can freeze the funds — but nobody can restore access without your seed phrase.
Step by step
- Install a wallet that supports USDT on the network you need (TRON, Ethereum, TON, Solana and others).
- Write down the seed phrase on paper and keep it offline. Never photograph it or send it to anyone.
- In the wallet, copy your USDT address for exactly that network.
- On the exchange, choose a USDT withdrawal on the same network, paste the address and check the withdrawal fee.
- After the withdrawal, find the transaction in a blockchain explorer by its hash.
Anyone who knows your seed phrase can take your funds. An exchange, a wallet or a support team never needs it.
If the network does not match
If the exchange offers USDT only on a network your wallet does not support, you can move it between networks with an exchange, for example USDT ERC20 → USDT TRC20 or USDT TRC20 → USDT (TON).
To send USDT from your own wallet later, it needs the native coin of the network for the fee: TRX on TRON, ETH on Ethereum, TON on TON, SOL on Solana.
Terms in this guide
Custodial and own wallet
On a custodial wallet or exchange account the service holds the keys and processes withdrawals. In your own (non-custodial) wallet only you hold the keys. Changezilla does not hold your funds: you receive the result at your own address.
Seed phrase
A set of words (usually 12 or 24) that gives full control over a wallet. Anyone who knows it can take the funds. Never share it: an exchange does not need it.
Network fee
A fee paid to the network for processing a transfer, in the native coin of the network: TRX, ETH, BNB, SOL, TON and others. The network fee for your own transfer is charged by your wallet or exchange and is not included in the estimate.
